I'm currently planning to vote for Weiss and Tapia-Hadley. I respect the other candidates. I don't respect the upper echelons of APS leadership. Weiss worked in this school system for over two decades, and seems to have firsthand experience of our many obvious (and solvable!) problems. Tapia-Hadley is thoughtful and professional and Hispanic voices on the Board are valuable given the makeup of the community. I generally want new perspectives on the Board, but Rives' stance on gender is a dealbreaker. Did the prior post about antisemitic posts from Tapia-Hadley have any basis in reality? Without any evidence, it seems like anonymous slander.
Why wouldn’t you vote for Kathleen? She’s the most qualified person running IMO.
+1 This is a strange pairing. Not sure how involved Paul will be going forward. His kids are grown and he teaches in DC now. And he didn't start to speak up until last year, and then what did he do other than make some comments to the school board and some posts on AEM? And what did Zuraya ever do? Nothing! She's polished and well spoken but really new to school issues. Kathleen is the only legit candidate.
Paul is the only candidate who has worked for APS, none of the others cannbe more acquainted with the issues facing APS than someone who has worked for them, and seen the changes. Paul was an active member in the APS education group and was even part of trying to start a separate teachers union, when AEA hit the skids. I don’t know him personally but will be voting for him.
What APS education group??? Kathleen was president of SEPTA, she's been a strong advocate for anti bullying, she was Vice Chair of Strategic Plan committee. She is the only one I'm excited to vote for.
Sorry, that was a typo. Educators group. He was a helpful colleague
Ok but that was in the past. He's not in APS anymore. And I'm not saying he wasn't a good colleague, I'm sure he was. But that's not the same as being a good board member.
