Ref Mondays incident: gun was only seen by a student. The student who allegedly had the gun left school. He came back willingly. No gun was found.
So, no school personnel saw the actual weapon? It was a 'if you see it say it' moment? Why do you put all the work on students, MCPs? A firearm on school grounds, and the student returns to school with no consequences? Meanwhile, student who told an adult at school (or elsewhere?!?) is still coming to school? With a bodyguard?
What should the consequences be for an accusation you can't prove?
I'm not sure. But I also don't think doing nothing when a kid who does what MCPS tells them to do: "if you see something, say something," and nothing happens. What do you think that kid who did the right thing and told about the gun he saw learns from this? He learns that it's not worth telling adults when you see a kid with a weapon, because the kid can just lie and get away with it. I.e. the system doesn't work. This is a real problem.
