NP, it’s well known that white, upper middle class, striver Takoma Park families send their kids to CAP. Very few go to the magnet, either because they are more interested in lefty social activist type subjects or because they don’t get in. It’s much more difficult to get in to the magnet than CAP. The number of local Takoma Park kids in CAP is many times the number of local kids in the magnet. And as has been mentioned, that is reflected in the kids taking the bus after 9th period. From the discussion here it sounds like maybe allegedly (according to one poster) more local kids got in to the magnet this year than in current years. But that doesn’t relate to the current composition.
May not be more local kids getting in. I do notice that students from Whitman and Churchill are less willing to go to Blair now and they get fantastic college admission offers from their home schools. I heard several friends’ kids declined Blair and RM IB offers. Wootton kids are somehow still very interested in Blair.
That's odd I looked at the college outcomes posted by MoCo360 and see that Blair and RMIB do so much better than Whitman and Churchill.
We’re talking about about 5-10students from each high school who decided to not go to Blair or RM IB. You can’t compare the whole non magnet school with magnet school for IVY admissions. But both Whitman and Churchill had top IVY admissions. But even for UMD admissions, Whitman and Churchill have better admission rates than Blair and RM according to the table in MoCo 360. Whitman had 386 applied to UMD and 243 admitted, Blair had 367 applied and 157 admitted, RM had 335 applied and 176 admitted, Churchill had 259 applied and 143 admitted.
