This is the second time APS has cancelled things that are important to people for no reason. School plays, science fairs, sports, cultural schools, etc are all not happening because someone made a lazy call way ahead of time. Arlington County and FCPS both called delays so it’s not like they have any cover by following the herd. Not sure why you think this is no big deal. [/quote]

Clearly this person has: little kids or kids who aren’t heavily involved in school based activities.   For some kids, they’re in HS and have been working for months on, eg, their play or their science fair project and this event was the culmination of that work.  I’m not saying that’s most kids but it could be REALLY REALLY important to a few kids.  Moreover, closing all the gyms for all basketball games impacted a lot of us.  And it was just a fundamentally bad call. All of us knew it at the time and complained.   There was zero good reason to make it as early as they did.  It’s a public institution and so we are completely correct to criticize the decisions made by taxpayer paid employees with taxpayer funded buildings.  If you don’t like to, go move to private school.   [/quote]

It may surprise you to know that the private schools all go by the calls of the counties, so they, too, have to cancel stuff for this nonsense.

To PP above who is complaining about how everyone needs to let it go, you need to let it go. This affects people. Some of us care. I find it truly odd that you don't, and more odd that it seemingly bothers you that some of us do. This was objectively a bad call. One of the worst APS has made in a long time, and, like you, I've been an APS parent for a long time, so that is saying something. Look out your window. It is perfectly sunny with no snow in sight. Please tell me why my kids' dinner time rec basketball game got cancelled? And also, you don't get to decide what other people care about. And also, if this was a one-time thing, sure, I could let it roll. But I've seen this happen repeatedly for over a decade now, and I find it maddening. [/quote]
