I do think the mail is intended to really entice the intellectual life of the mind kids, because some mail was really weird and intellectually abstract but also funny. I think Chicago is trying to find their people... and for the record I think my kids were some of those people, but it's no joke there. 
I don't understand why people call the school second rate or think its gaming the system somehow - I actually think they are going really broad with marketing to find the kids who can succeed in what is essentially a rigorous graduate school that in the past 100 years added undergraduate programs an expects the undergrads to perform like grad students.[/quote]
