Those of you saying "oh it just be because she was abused herself" would NEVER say this if it was a man. Stop making excuses because she's a wealthy, attractive, white woman just like you. This could be your best friend, your neighbor, your child's coach. She is a disgusting piece of shit who needs to rot in jail. I hope her ex husband had nothing to do with abuse, and that her children get help, and that the children that she has most definitely already abused are identified and given the resources they need.
We humans like to identify patterns of behavior, so that we can explain and predict behavior based on patterns. This helps us feel safer and make sense of things that are outrageous and heartbreaking (like school shootings and child sex abuse). Criminal psychology experts know the patterns, and the layperson with some life experience knows some patterns too. The classic one is a male who as a child was abused by a male, and as an adult goes on to abuse boys, creating chains of man-on-boy abuse. I appreciate the PP pages back who noted "elite deviance," that there is a pattern seen in cases involving elite people, that the elites felt more freer to do deviant acts. This was new to me, and I am glad to know another pattern. The pattern helps me compensate, feel calm in the face of this horror (I'm not friends with anyone that elite!) We figure that the school shooting would not happen at our child's school. We figure that the upstanding seeming family is safe for a sleepover. Then another school shooting happens, or you find out someone you'd never expect is a predator, and it turns you upside down! The crimes committed by this woman are so horrific, and I think it's made more shocking because we don't know what to make of it. Like, why??? Trying to make it make some kind of sense of it is normal and even useful. Maybe she was abused herself (this is NO excuse, but still useful to know!) Or maybe she has a personality disorder, is psychopathic, off her meds. None of these are mitigating at all to me, I just like to know how to account for unbelievable things. I do not want to make excuses for anyone, especially not this monster. I want criminal psych explanations and a pattern though. I have never been satisfied by explanation of "evil." Evil is evil, it exists here in this crazy story and evil also exists in everyday crimes that hurt. Evil, as an explanation, isn't useful.
