I'm amazed by the stats on here that aren't getting in. My heart hurts for the kids that have worked so hard to excel at all the things and it's. "not enough". My heart also hurts for the parents that have to figure out how to best support their kid.
Eh. Every kid on DCUM has a unweighted 4.0 and many of these have an SAT in the 1400s or even lower. That right there should tell you that a 4.0 today ain't what it used to be.
I see the 1400 SATs or the 30 ACTs paired with these perfect GPAs. It just doesn’t add up. People claim their kids just are not good test takers. How in the world did they get through high school without a single B if they are not good test takers? Do public schools allow retakes on tests or something? My kid is at rigorous private with tough grading and no APs. 3.1 GPA and 34 ACT (not superscored).
Most colleges, especially UVA, who prioritizes GPA over test scores, will take a lower test score with high GPA over a high test score and low GPA. Your kid, with the low GPA and high test score, looks like a slacker to college admissions officers. Not saying he is. My son has severe ADHD, so has both lower GPA and lower test score, but incredible brilliance elsewhere, which got him into Georgetown--so I feel your pain with the non-inflated GPAs at rigorous privates. But high test scores simply do not predict outcomes over high GPAs.
