You guys are completely focused on the wrong thing.  That NJ story is horrifying.  But, the problem is not phones.  The HUGE problem in that case, and in these MCPS fights is that our kids are being ASSAULTED AT SCHOOL.  Truly, that is the problem.  The poor girl in NJ should never have been beaten up like that IN a school building.

Fights outside of school have gone on since the beginning of time.  But the proliferation of fights in school should be a huge issue for all parents.  It's not just the kid being beaten up who is in danger.  Teachers or staff who try to break up the fight are in danger.  Innocent kids who are standing around at their lockers are in danger.

The people of Montgomery County do not want police officers in schools.  Voters have made that clear.  Our County Exec has made that clear.

+1 Criminal activity less likely to happen with police presence.  Remove police presence, crime goes up. Look at what is happening in those cities where they "defunded the police".  If you want to live in a crime infested area, have at it. But I don't want my kids to go to school where there is rampant drug use and violent behavior.  My kids feel safer with cops around.

Why does my kids' wants and feelings get disregarded? Because the progressive liberals have taken the stance that "to make things more equitable, you have to apply rules unequally".   Also, some PoC kids may feel unsafe with cops around, but do they feel any safer without cops and with violent kids around?  Seriously?  Wouldn't it make more sense for those kids to get to know cops in a safe place rather than out in the streets?  Do progressive liberals not want cops at all in their cities? If not, who's going to come when there are thieves and rapists in your home?  Will your kids call the cops if there is an intruder if they are afraid of cops?  Progressive liberal' logic makes no sense here.    Why are you making those kids more afraid of cops?[/quote]
