The expectations in kindergarten are the absolute most important part of whether the redshirt.  Kids without enough social emotional maturity tend to melt down when placed in an environment that expects them to act much older than they are.  If K is geared towards 6 yos and almost 6 yos then a young 5 yo is likely to be unsuccessful.[/quote]

Lucy Calkins is not the measure of whether to place a child in kindergarten or not. All children of those ages are socially and emotionally immature.
