It had more to do with the record-setting taxes he owed on maturing stock options. He owed billions in federal taxes. California would’ve taken something like 13% vs Texas at 0%. He saved himself hundreds of millions of dollars with that move.

So, he doesn't want to pay taxes in CA,  wants workers in CA to not have any rights, and got dinged for air pollution in CA (irony alert).

Yes, it is no wonder he left.
