Op any woman who has ever gone back to work soon after having a baby should be on you. Your lack of empathy is appalling. I truly hope your speciality is not HR in whatever important work you do!
Exactly! I'm one of the "angry teachers" who replied to OP, yet I'm just a working mom and parent, not a teacher. There are a lot of things to write to the principal about, but this is not one of them. Yes, her son drew the short end of the stick with a teacher who has been absent after coming back from maternity leave (but given all of the snow days and holidays in Jan, this really only equates to maybe 2-3 weeks?), but she clearly did not have to worry or has forgotten about how stressful being a working mom with a newborn was. Or maybe she had some sort of magical unicorn setup with a night nurse. I had a somewhat flexible office job at the time and remember how guilty I felt about not doing my job at the same level I was pre-baby. It was incredibly hard the first 5 or 6 months back. As OP pointed out, teaching is an incredibly important job as they are responsible for the education of 25-30 students. That doesn't mean that this teacher can magically fix a nationwide problem because she wants to. OP needs to get a grip and a reality check. I would have felt terrible if I had a boss e-mail me about missing days when I was already struggling mentally with not being at peak performance.
So much this....most of us Moms have all been where this poor teacher is. Empathy we need more of it.
