The debt doesn't belong to only one side and more importantly the debt ceiling isnt about future spending. It's about paying for past spending. Since we've been running deficits for decades every single bill that's been voted on is included. Even the vote itself, since it's broadcast by cspan, uses electricity and has to be published, causes debt that must be repaid.[/quote] Heck, just existing as a Senator incurs debt that must be repaid and requires the debt ceiling to be raised. Salary, benefits, health insurance, office staff, etc[/quote]
