After seeing it recommended here, I started and forced myself to finish Whats wrong with secretary Kim. I found it just too shallow and formulaic and simple (similar to most of the kdramas Netflix recommends for me). I'm one who loved loved loved Crash Landing and found Itewon Class watchable, mildly interesting. But Secr'y Kim falls into the category of too silly, too young, too mean/rich boss (and typically a dopey/poor girl) and really not much of a plot. I think CLOY spoiled kdramas for me.
I have a friend that has watched many K-dramas and written articles about them as well and agrees with your assessment. CLOY is clearly a cut above. I know "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim" is formulaic but Park Seo Joon and Park Min Young are so gorgeous together and good actors so it's a lot of fun to watch. I'm embarrassed to say that I had no interest in Asian shows prior to Covid so for me this whole new world of K-dramas is eye-opening. I'm picking up a lot about Korean culture and it's fun to "escape" DC for even just a little bit.
