MCPS wil be vindicated about 2 weeks after schools open down south and there are even more massive outbreaks.
Then how come every other country can open up, close a few schools temporarily and keep going on and open? How can daycares, camps, pools, etc... stay open right now? No issues. Because you know kids are not that symptomatic, they don’t spread it much at all, masks work, and so does social distancing. I believe OP. I think come November we are going to look like fools. We can’t sit home scared to death. There is an easy way to prevent this from spreading. Normal same people know this. Teachers are essential. Kids were in school for a month while this disease spread. No issue.
Because other countries has a national response to the pandemic and the US did not. We allowed the 50+ states and territories to have a mishmash of policies that did not coordinate at all. So we had states that opened up adjacent to states that were locked down. We had states with strict health restrictions like masks and social distancing next to states that had lax regulations. We had states that allowed a wide range of businesses and attractions to open, including bars, gyms, beaches, next to states that had very few businesses to open. So people from the locked down states just took road trips to the states opening up, then went home and brought the virus home with them to infect the restricted state. The lack of a national response has been responsible for us not controlling this. The pandemic was always going to hit us as one of the largest countries in the world. But with a national response, we could have contained this much like many other nations in the world did and we could have had a slow and steady decline like the other nations. Instead, the complete irresponsibility of the Trump administration, their disbelief in the seriousness of the virus, their political games about PPE and federal support and their manipulation of the information and data coming out have lead us to where we are; a nation in disarray, with rising rather than declining cases, hospitalization and death rates. Look at what happens every time something opens without adequate restrictions: beaches are causing surges that threaten to overwhelm the hospital systems, bars are causing hot spots even within certain cities, gyms are causing outbreaks. And you think that schools will be different? I think come October, many of the schools that do open will be closing due to outbreaks. Yes, I agree that the death rate will be lower because children are less susceptible, but I think there will be collateral damage in teachers, school staff, parents, grandparents who will be infected by child transmission.
