Truth.  This forum makes me despair for the critical thinking capacity of the American public.

I do think it's just magical thinking.  They want to believe that there is something "smart" that we could have done to stop this.  It reminds me of every time someone posts about a child that dies in some horrible accident and there are page and pages of posts blaming the parents and explaining why this would never happen to them or *their* child, because they're too *smart.*  They don't want to accept that sh*t happens. That's hilariously wrong.  The "magical thinking" is coming from the opposite side, from people talking about McDonald's and car accidents and the flu.  "It's fine!  Send all the kids to school!  They totes won't get sick anyway."  Rolling the dice and playing the odds that the kid who gets sick and gets REALLY sick isn't their kid.  It's like covidiot fan fiction.[/quote]
