I bet a whole lot of college coaches would show up at a tournament where the local GA and ECNL O3/04/05 teams play each other. Heck, bring in Armour and Pipeline and Richmond United. Leaving the whole GA versus ECNL thing aside, that would be a fantastic opportunity for more local coaches to see all the local girls. I hope with COVID and travel restrictions somehow the clubs are able to make that happen now that the draconian DA rules are gone.
Agreed. Would be nice for the loyalist parents to give up the fighting and see the benefits of this kind of model.
ENCL will not cooperate with GAL. Right now ECNL biggest selling point is they are the only elite league and get all the scouts. They do not care about kids or parents ....As tony soprano said “we're running a business here"
And to have a monopoly they just need to add the DAs. GAL will be pain in the neck until then.
You're hoping a business does what you want verse adjusting to the market place. If you want to play ECNL, tryout at an ECNL club of your choice. If you don't, don't.
I think that is the point. Many of us do not want to leave our GA clubs. We are happy there. Our girls like their teammates, they get good coaching, and logistically we can get them to practice each day. It looks to us like there will be plenty of great competition in the GA, and plenty of flexibility to seek out other high quality games as well. We are adjusting to the marketplace - we are keeping our kids where they are most happy. But some of us think the the marketplace would be addressing the needs/wants of its clientele better if the ECNL had admitted the top 3/4, or even all of, the DA teams. And there are ample reasons why that would have been a good move for the ECNL as a league, and beneficial for the current ECNL clubs, players and parents. ECNL would have a much higher percentage of the country’s best players and clubs had they done so. Can either league claim to be the only top level league in this country? Not honestly. Can ECNL claim to be the only top league in this area without FCV and Arlington, or the only top league nationally without Tophat, FC Dallas, Legends, Beach, NEFC, etc? To anyone being honest with themselves, the answer can only be no. Do I think we have a right to dictate what the marketplace should do? Nope. But like anyone else with any other product, I’m going to express a little frustration when to me there was an obvious and easy way for the marketplace to offer us all a better product. In the meantime, we are all, both leagues, slated to travel more at a time when we aren’t even sure we can travel at all. And we will be subjected to endless debates over which league is better when the obvious correct answer is, they both are.
Cut the crap. You want to stay with your team and still be considered the top league. That's all. Its about ego
You got it half right. We want to stay with our team, our coaches, our teammates and our club. As for the other half, we want a high level of competition that allows our kid to play at the highest level. It would be nice if we could do that all together, not traveling past Loudoun and McLean to get to a comparable opponent further away. Just like you could be playing us instead of traveling to South Carolina for a comparable opponent. Do we need to be in The Top League? Nope. Because there isn’t only one. There wasn’t only one when our kid started in the DA, and there isn’t only one now. An average team in a higher league should be able to dominate in a lower league. I have zero doubt that an average ECNL team would not dominate in the GA, and an average GA team would not dominate in the ECNL. They are both great leagues with great clubs, that also have some clubs that are a step below that, and some that are quite a bit below that still.
The GA is not a great league. They aren't even a league. They are a tier in an existing league called DPL. The DPL is a third tier league. You may want to check in on the NJ board to see how the view GAL.
GA isn’t even a league, and yet it’s enough of a league that here you are, on the GA thread, making sure that everyone knows that ECNL is the only top level league. Okay, got it. Anyone who looks at a list of the GA teams and says it isn’t a great league, please. There are plenty of teams that will be in that league that would be contenders in the ECNL at a minimum. And there are plenty of teams in the ECNL that would struggle in the GA, just as they do in the ECNL. Both leagues have great teams, both leagues have teams that struggle to keep up, and both leagues have teams that are in between.
