Your job is to help, but not to push him or her so hard that the kid starts to hate the game. That's the sure way to end the dream. The club programs and summer tournaments are expensive, but we saved money by staying in public school, and if your kid really loves it you'll find a way to make it work. One other piece of advice -- people on these message boards are really mean. Trying being nice to each other. Maybe the conversation will be less toxic.
