You need to learn more about Sith powers and pay closer attention to the movie. First of all, he wasn't alive. The very first line of the opening scroll said "the dead speak." His spirit was alive; not his corporeal body. That's why he needed Rey and Kylo's life forces to walk away from the machinery temporarily at the end (before Rey ultimately killed him entirely). Moreover, it's well established in the books and expanded universe that the Sith can keep their spirits alive. That's what he did. His body was not alive. That's also why he didn't have pupils in his eyes until he took their life force. [/quote]
