They make everyone repeat a grade so that they are bigger for sports.  Their school motto is something like be a good guy.  Son had several friends who went to MD.  All dumb as rocks.[/quote]

I went to Mater Dei and then an elite college.  No pink backpacks.  Lots of very smart kids and some less smart but on the whole around average for Prep / Gonzaga and those schools have very high average SAT scores.  Not sure you can do much better unless you are talking about a school like St. Albans that draws from the whole area and all religious groups and rejects a ton of people.  It's a fine school and insulting 6th grade boys says more about you than them, IMO.

I will say that the sports stuff is overdone, particularly the redshirting, and I probably won't send my sons there for that reason.  But the education was high quality and the teachers were dedicated and thoughtful.

In particular, I learned grammar at Mater Dei in a way I never saw it taught elsewhere.  This was very beneficial as a lifelong skill.  [/quote]
