Also good questions: why do we subsidize the oil industry? Why does that waitress, who probably rents, subsidize a tax break for your fancy house? Why do retirement savings get a tax break? Why do we send hundreds of millions in military aid to Egypt, of all places? Answer: we are supporting those activities, and want to encourage certain industries. To me electric cars make the most sense of all those examples. If the US is ahead of other nations in a developing industry, we will reap the rewards later.[/quote]
