What is hilarious is seeing Democrats pontificating about the firing although Hillary herself said that if she were elected president she was not willing to commit to keeping Comey. When Comey issued a statement in late October that he was reopening the investigation, Democrats were without exception outraged by his action and were lambasting Comey. Since the election the universal chant by Democrats has been to complain about Comey and how he tilted the election. Suddenly, the Democrats have now become his champion. The hypocrisy is stunning!
What's more astounding is that you take at face value the blatant lies in Trump's firing letter.
What is even more astounding is that I did not mention a word about Trump's firing letter and whether there were grounds to fire him. I have no idea whether his firing was warranted or not. I do know that the Deputy AG, Rod Rosenstein, who recommended his firing is someone who is respected by both Democrats and Republicans and was confirmed to the position by a vote of 94-6!
You are taking at face value that the firing was recommended by Rosenstein, and not simply ordered by Trump.
I seriously doubt that a person of Rosenstein's reputation and integrity would allow a misleading statement like the one below to remain unchallenged if it was not accurate. In a statement announcing the removal, the White House said Trump had “acted based on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.” In a separate letter, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein chastised Comey for holding a press conference last summer to announce the FBI would not recommend charges against Hillary Clinton. "The Director was wrong to usurp the Attorney General's authority on July 5, 2016, and announce his conclusion that the case should be closed without prosecution. It is not the function of the Director to make such an announcement. At most, the Director should have said the FBI had completed its investigation and presented its findings to federal prosecutors. The Director now defends his decision by asserting that he believed Attorney General Loretta Lynch had a conflict. But the FBI Director is never empowered to supplant federal prosecutors and assume command of the Justice Department. There is a well-established process for other officials to step in when a conflict requires the recusal of the Attorney General. On July 5, however, the Director announced his own conclusions about the nation's most sensitive criminal investigation, without authorization of duly appointed Justice Department leaders." https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/05/trump-fires-fbi-director-james-comey/526032/
