This project has been screwed up from the start by DCPS. Joe and the Maury SIT have done excellent work to make DCPS to update the enrollment projections before it was too late. But now they're in a tough spot of trying to get the funding the project should have gotten in the budget years ago. I respect Joe's ultimate position that Maury shouldn't move ahead of other schools that need renovations more. There was a big thing at SWS last fall when their classrooms were over 90 degrees. I don't think he's ever said what he'd want as a parent. DCPS dismissed any ideas about a cluster or moving some grades to Elliot Hine that Joe suggested would be necessary if the Maury project wasn't expanded until it was too late. It was CM Grosso who said at a budget meeting last year that DCPS had talked to him about a cluster. Grosso should have made DCPS engage Maury and Miner at that point as the council actually has oversight over DCPS, not the state board. DCPS didn't talk to Maury - until a couple weeks ago - and still haven't talked to Miner. I've heard that many comments on the Maury listserve were downright racist and hope that isn't true.
