Ranking Guy’s Week 9 -2024 VA Boys Class 6 Rankings 1. Robinson (14-0) Results: Def. West Springfield 17-7 Analysis: Robinson finishes its second undefeated regular season in three years. Their only two close games were the first two games of the season against Yorktown and McLean. Since then, the Rams have been absolutely dominant, with a more than 10 goal average margin of victory over its last 12 games. They should roll through the Patriot District tournament and will likely not be challenged in the Region C tournament either. They are hoping that they have done enough to avoid a repeat of 2022, when they fell to Lake Braddock and failed to make the State tournament. Quality Wins: Madison, Yorktown, McLean, Langley, Cosby Decent Wins: West Potomac, South County, Woodson, Lake Braddock Quality Losses: None This Week: 5/10 – Patriot District Semi-Finals 2. Madison (9-5) Results: Def. South Lakes 14-4 Analysis: Madison finished strong with four straight wins to take the Concorde regular season title. They appear to be close to full strength and the second most dangerous team in Class 6. They should cruise to the Concorde tournament championship. The most battle-tested team in the state, they will still have to beat Liberty #2 to make the State tournament so it won’t be easy, but the Warhawks seem to find a way. Only Class 6 loss was to Robinson. Quality Wins: Yorktown, Patriot Decent Wins: West Potomac, Chantilly, Woodson, Oakton Quality Losses: Riverside, Severna Park, Atlee This Week: vs. Oakton/South Lakes winner 3. Langley (11-3) Results: Def. Washington-Liberty 23-3 Analysis: Langley finished off one of its best regular seasons in recent history, with its only losses coming to Robinson and two MD top publics. Along the way they knocked off their two biggest district rivals in close contests. They will get a first round bye and then an easy warmup game before likely facing the Yorktown/McLean winner in the championship game. Only Class 6 loss was to Robinson. Quality Wins: Yorktown, McLean, Sidwell Friends, Cosby Decent Wins: South Lakes Quality Losses: None This Week: 5/10 vs. Herndon/Washington-Liberty Winner 4. Yorktown (10-4) Results: Def. Washington-Liberty 14-3, Def. TJ 16-2, Def. Herndon 16-5 Analysis: Three easy wins against three soft teams let Yorktown rest some starters and coast into the Liberty District playoffs. They get an easy warmup against Marshall before likely facing a McLean team again that they dominated in their last matchup. We are projecting another Yorktown win and a championship match at Langley the following Tuesday. The Patriots seem to have improved since the last match against Langley but stay one spot lower due to the head-to-head loss. Only Class 6 losses are to teams ranked higher. Quality Wins: Broadneck, McLean, Patriot Decent Wins: Oakton Quality Losses: Robinson, Madison, Langley, The Heights This Week: 5/8 vs. Marshall, 5/10 vs. McLean (likely) 5. Battlefield (12-1) Results: Def. Freedom 11-5, Def. Stone Bridge 8-1, Def. Unity Reed 18-2 Analysis: Battlefield’s goalie returned and the team showed out against Freedom, dominating the Eagles and rejoining the list of true title contenders. They shut down Stone Bridge and beat Unity Reed with ease. They stay out of the top-4 due to the loss to a lower ranked team. We have heard reports that they drew the #2 seed in Cedar Run and NFHS shows them playing Patriot on 5/8 so we will go with that. Quality Wins: Briar Woods, Independence, McLean, Freedom Decent Wins: None Quality Losses: Patriot This Week: 5/8 vs. Patriot 6. Freedom South Riding (12-1) Results: Lost to Battlefield 11-5, Def. Osbourn 19-3 Analysis: Freedom came out flat against Battlefield and looked outmatched the entire game. It was surprising how lifeless they were given the chance to knock off their biggest threat and finish a perfect season. Everyone is entitled to one off game but we are again questioning if Freedom has what it takes to contend when it counts. We heard that Freedom drew the #1 seed but cannot find any site reporting the Eagles’ next game. We are guessing it is against #4 Gainesville, since NFHS is showing Battlefield and Patriot playing on 5/8. Quality Wins: Riverside, Briar Woods, Patriot Decent Wins: Dominion Quality Losses: None This Week: 5/8 vs. Gainesville 7. McLean (10-4) Results: No games Analysis: McLean’s season ended early and they finished on a slightly downward trend losing two of their last three. They struggled without their second leading scorer and, as has been the case all year for them, need to find more offensive threats. They will get an easy tune-up game before a critical rematch at Yorktown. Quality Wins: Sidwell Friends Decent Wins: Chantilly, Woodson, Lake Braddock Quality Losses: Robinson, Langley, Battlefield This Week: 5/8 vs. Wakefield, 5/10 @ Yorktown (likely) 8. Cosby (7-3) Results: Def. Deep Run 5-3, Def. Midlothian 10-9 Analysis: Cosby got two good wins this week against rival Deep Run and previously undefeated Midlothian, one of the top teams in Class 5. Those wins, combined with close losses to Atlee and Langley, gets Cosby back into the mix. They still have four games left in their regular season and get a quick rematch with Midlothian this Friday. Quality Wins: None Decent Wins: Deep Run, Midlothian Quality Losses: Atlee, Langley This Week: 5/8 vs. James River, 5/10 vs. Midlothian 9. Patriot (9-5) Results: Def. Unity Reed 21-2, Lost to Mountain View 16-15, Def. Osbourn Park 20-3 Analysis: Patriot blew out two lesser opponents but dropped a shocker to Mountain View. The win over Battlefield and close loss to Freedom are the only things keeping Freedom in the rankings. They face Battlefield again, this time at full strength, and will need to step up to keep it close. Quality Wins: Battlefield Decent Wins: South Lakes Quality Losses: Freedom This Week: 5/8 vs. Battlefield 10. Hayfield (11-0) Results: Def. Justice 16-8 Analysis: Hayfield closed out its perfect season with a convincing win over Justice to take the National district title. Quality Wins: None Decent Wins: Chantilly, South County, South Lakes Quality Losses: None This Week: 5/8 vs. Lewis Also Considered: West Potomac, Chantilly, Woodson, Deep Run, Mountain View, South County, Lake Braddock, Westfield
