LS and/or TSJ clearly working overtime to try to scare their dissatisfied players from attending the upcoming VRSC ID sessions, the timing of which, for the record, won’t even be announced for another couple weeks and which are for NEXT year’s rosters. Maybe it’s just their abysmal reading comprehension skills. Incidentally, didn’t LS pick up several GFR 2013 players mid-season? No wonder they’re worried about players taking a look at VRSC.
You’re dangling your own carrot, it would be funny if it weren’t sad. A soccer player / family doesn’t look at VRSC with seriousness. That’s where discarded players and coaches end up.
Let’s be more specific. I’ll grant you that, absent unusual and player-specific circumstances, no ECNL starter in the DMV would leave their team for VRSC. However, it is unquestionably also true that ECNL-R players (starters and bench players) will consider VRSC for GA’s generally (although not universally) better competition and better college recruiting visibility. See below for more on this. I’d also bet there are ECNL bench players who will consider VRSC because they would prefer more playing time with and against generally inferior players over less playing time with and against generally superior players. Reasonable people will see that trade off in different ways. As for the GA vs. ECNL-R decision, and acknowledging the imperfections of any attempt to rank youth soccer teams, the Rankings app has VRSC’s 2009s at 152 in the country and Loudoun’s ECNL-R team at 600. That’s admittedly VRSC’s best GA team, so let’s look at its worst: VRSC’s 2012s are ranked 309 nationally and Loudoun’s ECNL-R team is one spot higher in the state at 253 nationally. Every single other VRSC GA team is ranked higher than Loudoun’s ECNL-R team. And this is after VRSC’s first one half of one season in GA; where do you think the trend line is headed? So don’t tell me that Loudoun’s ECNL-R players are not going to consider VRSC. They’re just waiting for the ID session dates to be announced! And that’s exactly why LS people trash VRSC on this board. Fun fact: At least one TSJ team is ranked higher than Loudoun’s ECNL-R team of the same year.
You’re reaching HARD and projecting wishful thinking. Fun fact: hardly any ECNL-R girl is leaving for LS to join GA when you can buy spots with money. Mid-tier and non-serious players most likely, those looking for the next level aren’t wasting their energy and money in the not-so-Revolution programs. Not every parent in NOVA is dumb as a rock. They still see through all the smoke and mirrors.
How do you explain the former LS players already on Rev GA teams? You can’t wish that reality away. As a PP said, there would not be such vitriol directed toward VRSC here if no one cared. Someone is worried. I wonder who that is. (Hint: TSJ already lost and there’s only one other club in the area.)
