Are you new to DC or do you just not get out much? The French are plenty persecuted in social gatherings across the city. Furthermore, whether the French are protected or persecuted is irrelevant. Would mascots named “Honkies” or “Crackers” be tolerable anywhere in America? So why would a racial slur against an entire country? And, yes, it is offensive. If you have any French friends, refer to them to their face with the name of your mascot - “this is my friend, Pierre, the frog” - and don’t be surprised when you get punched in the face.[/quote]
