US Club is not going to allow clubs that participate in MLSN and Or GA to participate in NPL/RL leagues starting in 26/27. Meaning team 1 for boys plays MLSN team no longer can play NPL league. MLSN knows this is coming which is one of the reasons they created MLS2/Aspire, making more money also a factor obviously but they need leagues for clubs lower level teams going forward.
MLSN could dip into younger ages as part of a growth model, however they would do this to try and make money, not simply to stay BY. To make money and prevent failure, they would not limit their recruitment pool by using a less popular age cutoff, especially when all other competitive soccer leagues will be based on an Aug 1st cutoff. I personally don’t believe they will try to go below a u12 pre-mls category, and even this will face the same business risk, as would u13-u19, should they choose to stay BY. Plus, it is not an MLS decision at the end of the day. Clubs get to decide what leagues they play in, and if the nightmare of two registration systems and shuffling/alienating their pipeline is not worth the trouble, they won’t participate, and instead join ECNL, or USL Next, or the next elite alphabet league that will take up that space.
