I just noticed the FCPS website is slightly updated: 1. Confirms that the Board voted to open the new western high school in August 2026 for the 2026-27 school year as a comprehensive high school with traditional boundaries, which includes a special programming pathway option. 2. In Year 1, enrollment will be "opt-in" for rising 9th and 10th graders from five specific overcrowded pyramids: Westfield, Chantilly, Oakton, South Lakes, Centreville 3. Confirms bus service will only be provided to students who live within the eventual boundary once it is drawn. 4. Boundaries for the new western high school will be determined by late spring 2026. (May?) More importantly we got a timeline now. December 1 - 8: Parent Zoom Information Sessions Morning and evening virtual information sessions led by the planning principal, the Instructional Services Department (ISD), and the Chief of Schools staff. December 8 - 19: Student Information Sessions Optional information sessions for all rising 9th and 10th grade students in the five western pyramids: Centreville, Chantilly, Oakton, South Lakes, and Westfield. Sessions will take place during existing intervention/return periods. December 19: Formal Opt-In and Enrollment Analysis Begins Families of rising 9th and 10th grade students in the western pyramids will receive a formal opt-in form. Using this form, families will be able to say whether or not they would like their child(ren) to attend the new high school for the 2026-27 school year. Week of January 12, 2026: Initial Enrollment Analysis FCPS staff will review families’ opt-in forms which will help determine our next steps. This analysis will specifically inform how close we are to meeting our goal of enrolling 1,000 students.
