Trump had been asked repeatedly to return the documents. He refused. His attorneys had been asked to oversee returning the documents. On Trump’s orders, they asserted, as officers of the court, that all of the documents had been returned. Trump was still ordering Walt Nauta to move boxes around. FBI agents, understandably, were very reluctant to raid Mar-a-Lago. I can see why they would propose asking permission, but obviously, that would have rendered another search as fruitless as previous efforts. A raid was the only way to recover the documents. The FBI did communicate with the Secret Service to gain entry to MAL. They did not bust down doors, guns drawn. They performed the raid while Trump was away, so there would be as few people involved as possible.[/quote]
