Why is it nice for U13s in this case to play teams from other states? Not enough competition nearby? You guys pounding everybody? You can tell all of your Facebook friends how your superstar played a team all the way from North Carolina? Or it's just nice travel and stay in hotels and eat out in another state during a pandemic?
In part, because it's exciting for the kids. As a kid growing up first in a number of different states, some of my favorite times and best friends in soccer came from weekends in a hotel, playing around together before and after games, and generally being out of town with my team. It's fun and different. It's definitely tougher as a parent, and I think there's a legitimate argument whether it's good right now during Covid or not, but's fun for the kids to play different teams and hang out with their teammates. There are plenty of other ways to do it without traveling, but if the kids enjoy it and the parents are willing to do it, then awesome for them to use soccer as an excuse to visit nearby states.
Not to mention that it is much better than the Bethesda Cup.
It's a really good tournament; ignore the people on here, who are either objecting out of envy because their specific VYS team did not go or based on an extremely poor understanding of science and incremental risk. It's exactly the thing that VYS needs to do to attract and retain top talent. Of course it will cause consternation within and outside the club - anybody showing ambition and competitiveness immediately attracts scorn, but welcome to the United States in 2020.
What? You think sending the 12 year team to NC for a tournament will attract and maintain talent? This is probably what you aren't attracting and maintaining talent....you're clueless.
So bitter. FYI other clubs go to Europe...like Arlington. So, you have that. :P Obviously, you have an axe to grind. Maybe go for a jog? It will help you destress.
Personally, I don't care where you go to play soccer but if you think it will attract and maintain talent there, you are clueless. Just saying.
