Iran has now upped the ante and is attacking ships in the strait of Hormuz. Very problematic, because they are not military but civilian sailors. Iran says they will not agree to a ceasefire until USA removes the blockade. 1. The head of the UN maritime agency has appealed for help for thousands of seafarers stranded in the Gulf by the effective closure of the strait of Hormuz. About 20,000 seafarers and 2,000 ships have been stranded since US-Israeli strikes on Iran on 28 February, according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The agency said at least 10 seafarers have been killed and several more severely injured in attacks on commercial vessels since the start of the war. IMO’s secretary general, Arsenio Dominguez, said the agency is working on an evacuation plan for the stranded ships but that it can only be put into action when there are clear signs of de-escalation. 2. Here is a summary of the attacks reported in the strait of Hormuz and the statement by the IRGC of the seizure of two of the ships. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it received a report of a container ship coming under fire off the coast of Oman by a gun boat linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Greece’s Kathimerini newspaper reported that the ship was identified as the Liberia-flagged Epaminondas, owned by Greece’s Technomar Shipping and operated by MSC. The UKMTO said it received a second report of a ship coming under attack in the strait of Hormuz, near the coast of Iran. It did not say who launched the attack against the cargo ship, which had stopped in the water. Iranian reports suggest the vessel was called Euphoria. The maritime intelligence company Vanguard told the BBC that a third ship was attacked in the strait of Hormuz, identifying it as the Panama-flagged MSC Francesca. These are innocent seafarers. While it is Iran attacking, USA now has a responsibility to address this in order to protect these people.
Did you forget what the US has done? The US navy blow up at least 54 civilian boats in the Caribbean and Pacific. They fired on an unarmed cargo ship in the Persian Gulf disabling it. No word on what happened to the crew of that ship. These are all acts of war and war crimes against civilians sailors. The US is the bad actor and everyone of the seafarers trap in the Persian Gulf fear for their lives when they see a US navy vessel. It is time you admit the US is lawless and a rogue nation.
My god, you are an idiot. IRAN is a terrorist nation, doing what terrorists do - holding the entire world hostage and firing on innocent ships/sailors. There is no reasoning with terrorists. DP
Both can be true: the US, Israel and Iran are all three huge bullies that need to be punished. Sadly for the innocent populations of those countries.
How is Iran a huge bully? They didn’t start any war and have not invaded a country in centuries unlike the other 2
1. Iran terrorizes its own population, and has vowed the destruction of Israel and funded terror networks all over the globe. 2. Israel terrorizes its Palestinian population and neighbors and invades neighboring countries on the slightest of pretexts to expand its territory. It has committed war crimes. 3. The USA has run rough shod over a large part of the world in the past 100 years, on the pretext of anti-Communist Domino Theory, and more recently in the Middle East on the pretext of nonexistent weapons of mass destruction. This administration has committed war crimes in Iran and on the high seas. The punishment is not in our control, other PP. The punishment is that the USA is voluntarily ceding its Superpower status to China. The USA is not seen as a reliable partner anymore, by anyone.
Israel is not fighting Iran because Iran “terrorizes its population”. To the contrary, Israel wants to install someone who will terrorize the population. Apparently, the population of 90m in Iran don’t agree because they have not taken down the regime despite the Mossad-fuelled mass shootings of police during demonstrations in January. Irans government found the Mossad agents within their own people and imprisoned or executed them which is a strict message to any Iranian who wants to topple the regime. Irans two steps ahead of Israel because Israel’s used these tricks before throughout the region. Israel completely underestimated Iran’s ability to mitigate Mossad activity Please note Iran knew the Us would eventually invade them. Every president since Bush has discussed potential war with Iran including Hillary Clinton. They were part of Bush’s famous Axis of Evil speech in 2002. They had 20 years to prepare. Why were we not prepared? Israel and America really thought taking down Iran would be a two week adventure despite failing last June as well. The hubris is astounding
May I remind you the the US government dismantled Iran’s democratically elected government and installed the Shah. A fake one too since he was not a member of the storied Qatar dynasty. That’s like us going to the UK and taking over, dismissing the government and appointing our own guy to be the new King of England with no prior ties to the House of Windsor.
