As someone with a u17 this is completely wrong.

DA "failed" because US Soccer no longer wanted to provide free soccer at clubs so there would be better USMNTs and USWNTs.

MLS took over boys DA and morphed it into a form of minor league academy system.

Girls DA started over as GA which was/is a near copy of girls ECNL.

It failed because ECNL recruited a good chunk of the top teams out of DA. Do you even know why Top Hat is GA on the girls not ECNL?

GA is not “DA starting over.” GA is a result of clubs that got pissed at ECNL because of how they screwed everyone and they went off and started their own thing.

MLS had been ind discussions and studies of setting up their own academies for about 18m prior to the collapse, and when DA collapsed, MLSN launched because ECNL was trying to cherry pick the best.
