Everybody at the Potomac game yesterday knew each other, players, parents and kids, so the hate against SR isn't coming from our parents. I didn't hear the SR parents saying anything crazy and their students definitely out did ours. Crazy good game, weird coaching moves from both sides, and terrible refs who needed a 5-minute huddle to make every call. That game could have gone either way. I'm glad our girls have at least one more game next week.
A bit of an overstatement they huddled for every call, but it is considered refereeing best practice to compare what, in this case, the three referee saw on the play to determine who had the best visual. Better to caucus and get the call correct, than allow an incorrect call to be made from an inferior angle. In the P/SR game, the referees weren't perfect but nothing outrageous and certainly not of the magnitude to influence the outcome. SR won the game on the strength of their draw controls, for which Potomac had no answer, and which kept the ball in their defensive zone for the majority of the 2nd qtr and 2nd half. And there should be no complaints about the SR cheer section. There were virtually no Potomac students supporting their team (until boys lacrosse came at the very end) whereas SR had about 30 girls travel from MD and root for their team in a spirited fashion. SR had a proctor there making sure the cheers were appropriate and the only borderline one was the "we can't hear you" highlighting lack of student support for Potomac. Overall, well played by both teams and a thoroughly entertaining game of which players on both sides can hold their heads high.
