Question: Are men more privileged than women in our society? Answer: Yes Question: So does that mean all men are sexist? Answer: No it just means men have more advantages and don't have as many challenges in our society as women. It would be sexist to DENY the fact and therefore refuse to empathize with women who don't have such advantages and have to face such challenges. Question: Are whites more privileged than people of color in our society? Answer: Yes Question: So does that mean all white people are racist? Answer: No it just means whites have more advantages and don't have as many challenges in our society as people of color. It would be racist to DENY the fact and therefore refuse to empathize with people of color who don't have such advantages and have to face such challenges.
This. Thank you.
Why do we see so many threads and posts whining about white privilege but not nearly as many about male privilege?
I'm not a woman so my opinion is jaded somewhat, but I would guess that the reason there isn't as much resentment and/or protest about male privilege is because there is a sizable segment of the female community who aren't outraged by it. I think there are a lot of women who may not necessarily openly acknowledge that the prefer men have more advantages in life, they consciously or subconsciously accept traditional gender roles and the privileges that come with being a man. Many women believe that men are supposed to make more money. Many women believe men are supposed to have more authority. Many women believe men are supposed to be the warriors and rulers and women are supposed to be the nurturers and subordinates. There is nowhere near the same level of acceptance with regard to traditional/stereotypical roles when it comes to white privilege. There is no sizable segment of minorities who aren't outraged by the fact that they get treated unfairly because of their skin color. You would be hard pressed to find people of color that believe whites are supposed to make more money and whites are supposed to have more authority. You'd be hard pressed to find any people of color that believe whites are supposed to get the benefit of the doubt and be respected as individuals while people of color are supposed to be regarded with suspicion and not seen as individuals.
