Look, I don't like trashing my own neighborhood school, but just in case anyone out there actually thinks anything PP is saying is true, email the actual IB contact at Eastern above. Fwiw, if the valedictorian had done all that well in IB she would have graduated with the max of 30 credits (2 years not one), just like everyone did at my IB High school. And as mentioned above, you don't get an IB diploma from your high school, you get an IB diploma from the IB organization. So even if Eastern gives the kids a special "IB Diploma" it's not actually an IB diploma.
Sort of. I work in college admissions so I know that, increasingly, competitive colleges are disinclined to give college credit for HS work. As the years roll by, college administrators and faculty are more and more inclined to view high school work and college work as being too different to offer college credit for the former. Thus, AP test scores of 4-5, and IB test scores of 6-7, generally let a student place out of introductory classes at a college and that's about it. These days, the most competitive US colleges (Ivies, Stanford, Duke, Little Ivies etc.) rarely give any credit for IB work. I was granted a full year of college credit for my IB Diploma work but don't expert my children to get any. IB Diploma work confers a great education, but parents and students should still expect to pay for four years of college afterwards.
Call me cYnical, but colleges and Universities want every last penny they can get their hands on. They have no incentive to give a pass on credit hours.
