The first letter in DEI is Diverse. Private schools have switched from looking for diversity through the entire school to include education and are almost primarily looking for minority athletes to increase their diversity % and entertain the students, alumni and staff at the same time. One of the player's dads on Bullis brags about how he got the best scholarship deal out of Bullis by putting race first. His teammate on the Hawks' dad did the exact same thing. It's not much of a secret. DEI is almost never used to reference minority athletes, but it is used when minority candidates are given priority first in skilled fields like medicine or flying a plane based on the color of their skin rather than merit.
Your comment comes across as someone who is accustomed to access and privilege and becomes uncomfortable when longstanding assumptions or standards are challenged. The two Black dads of Bullis players must have been savvy by strategically leading with race. Bullis would have certainly struggled to identify their race without the Black box being checked on their applications. What a joke! Over the years, Bullis has been one of the only teams to consistently field Black players (I can name 8 over the past 6 years). Based on your comment, I can only assume that this decision was rooted in the entertainment value delivered by those Black players for the enjoyment of others. Instead of focusing on race, let's look at talent. I have a few questions. Is your kid, lil Franklin, an over-rated 2 star player who is consistently dominated by players who could have only accessed private schools (Dematha, SJ, GZ, STA, Landon, and Prep) via DEI? Let's be honest. Do you feel inadequate as "they" have consistently dominated lil Franklin throughout his HS season and then again during the summer? It must be frustrating but I promise, it will be ok. After all, it is all designed for entertainment. I can't wait to share a beer with you at the UFC fight next weekend on the White House lawn. On the following Monday, let's head to the Kennedy-Trump Center to catch a show. We can probably grab two seats in the front row.
