I didn't take it that way. Eunice imo was just a practical and ethical person and what you see is what you get. She wanted to make sure he'd come so was articulating all instructions because she saw him as a bit intellectually inferior to her and easily manipulated, so she worried he would not show. Her one error was saying she loved him when she didn't because it clearly came through she was lying right there.[/quote]

When he first told her he loved her, she wouldn't say it back, but finally said, "you know how I feel but I can't say it because you're married" or something to that effect.  So weird how she was very suddenly not interested at the end.[/quote]

I think she went to him in Montecito after she got the phone because in a sea of calculating, rich people, she felt she could count on him being moral as she saw that he had this sincerity and naivete about him. She did not realize that while these things were true, he was lying about the PT certificate and she did not know the blackmail story.

And on the plane she was humoring him, like a little kid you like well enough but you also need to behave and do x, y and z chores.[/quote]
