My DC is not in the zone schools, and the messaging was unclear that everyone is eligible to apply. The principal came to the middle school and gave a presentation; I learned about the school through my child. After visiting, I get the impression they are recruiting the waitlist children from TJ. I can’t imagine that not becoming a magnet school. I think the county is going to invest all of their energy to make sure that this is a success. I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes more covenant than TJ in the future. Alternatively, it can be a disaster like most things at FCPS and hopefully the first few classes don’t feel a negative impact when applying for college.
Not unless it passes TJ in the national rankings and I doubt that happens anytime in the near future. It is not going to have the advanced labs or options that TJ has. They will foster a connection in the areas where they can, like the AI, but it will not otuch what TJ has for resources or specialized course options. It could be a nice fall back for kids who are not admitted to TJ in the Western part of the County but this about it. Pupil placed students will have to provide their own transportation as well.
