I did find it very hard to read in places, but it was all integral to the story and the development of the character -- it isn't trauma porn at all. It felt a bit wild to be reading it now, as war has again come to Lebanon; I think I felt more aware of the news about the war than I would have been if I hadn't been reading this book.
