My walk from metro was fine. A but of snow at intersections but manageable. I am not even wearing boots. It was COLD though
I demand to know why our councilmember isn't doing something about this. It's like they don't care!
It's weird that some people defend the city here. The DC government's reaction to the snow has been a failure in almost every conceivable way.
Specifically, the mayor. It's the mayor's job to run city services. It's weird when people blame council members because the mayor executed something poorly.
They are all responsible. The Mayor and her team, and the elected Councilpeople who are supposed to be representing us and keeping the city accountable. In our case, neither our Mayor nor our Councilwoman (Nadeau) are running for reelection so you can imagine exactly how motivated they are to solve this problem.
JLG seems determined to avoid any responsibility. Lovely way to start your mayoral campaign.
+1 I’ve been very surprised and annoyed by her lack of action in this situation. Ward 4 is still a mess and it seems like they’ve just given up on sending snow plows.
What action are you looking for? The Mayor via DPW sends the plows. You think the Mayor is going to do something to help make Janeese look good? The opposite! Mayor Bowser will gladly throw us under the bus if it can help McDuffie.
This shitshow is a pretty good leadership test for the mayoral candidates, and Janeese basically saying "not my job!" is pretty telling.
Did she really do that? I was actually just realizing that asking both of them: "what went wrong, what went right, and what would you do differently during Snowcrete 2026?" is both the only question that matters but also the most illuminating question anyone could possibly ask them.
Nobody cares about Janeese's autopsy of what went wrong because everyone already knows what went wrong. And nobody cares what she would do differently next time because a storm like this probably isn't going to happen again in our lifetimes. All people want to know is who is going to fix this shit right now. And when Janeese acts like this is not her job WHILE SHE IS RUNNING FOR MAYOR and WHILE SHE IS PART OF THE DC government, it just shows you that she is not a leader. Instead of stepping up, she passed the buck, which tells you everything you need to know about her candidacy.
Duffman! lol We actually don't know what went wrong. A lot of different things seem to have gone wrong in different parts of the city. There's also some things that people have claimed about going wrong were actually right or unavoidable. Understanding and caring about that question is what matters. You can't fix something unless you know what broke. Things happen. Unusual things seem to especially happen in Washington. How one approaches non-textbook circumstances is the only thing that matters.
Exactly. They waited like nine days to start hauling away snow and ice that had piled up at crosswalks with heavy equipment. Was that a mistake and avoidable? Yes. Also, they could have done a much better job communicating about trash pickup. Easily. I should not have had to receive a screen shot of a personal text message from DPW to know when and where the trash trucks were coming. And, to be fair, i still don't know when they're coming next. So, should an autopsy of this train-wreck (to mix metaphors) be conducted? Absolutely. I doubt anyone knows, at this point, what exactly went wrong and how to avoid such a s-show in the future.
