Sure, points have value, but the value is different than cash. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but different. Clearly in this case the mother and sister feel like buying the tickets with points allowed him to make save money, and that seems like a safe assumption as he'd be an idiot to use points if it lost him money.

So yeah, mom and sis shouldn't expect a free ticket or to be given points, but they should expect to just be reimbursing son  the value of what he actually paid. So yeah, he's definitely somewhere on the line of AH to tacky to bad communicator depending on whether he made a lot of money, just a little, or broke even![/quote]

100% I mean, people wouldn't use points if it wasn't financially advantageous. So he very likely came out ahead. And you don't "make a profit" off of family members. Especially in a sneaky manner.  It's tacky. That's why he's the AH.
