I asked out of curiosity...DC told me this is widely talked that TJ hosted AMC every year however that student always took AMC test outside TJ.
What's the catch here? Why take AMC outside and what does it suggest?
It doesn't suggest anything. There are a variety of locations where you can register and take the AMC 8, 10, and 12. Obviously the 8 does not really pertain to TJ since it is a MS test. I include it because there are a large number of available testing sites with registered proctors for both tests. The challenge is that students are sent their individual results and there is no longer a list of students and their scores. You would have to trust the score that the student reported, and it is easy enough to doctor the "official certificates" that the proctors send out. this makes verifying scores challenging. The solution would be to require kids to take the test at one location where the test results would be returned to and then distributed. There are two sessions for the AMC 10 and 12, the A and B. They are two different tests, that are supposed to test similar material and be close to each other in terms of difficulty. This allows students who have a conflict on one test date to have the opportunity to take the test on the other date. Many students will take that A and the B because it is very likely that they will end up with different scores. The test is offered on the same day, regardless of the location. AMC 8 has a week long testing window, which si different. It could be that some kids want to take it after they get home and have a snack instead of right after school, or whenever TJ offers it. Your score is not going to change based on testing location but might because you are someone who needs a bit of a break between school and taking the test.
