I wish there was a way to signify when traveling abroad that we are not Trump supporters. A hat saying “we didn’t vote for this” too obvious?
We just returned from a trip to Europe. We were surprised that the Europeans preferred Trump over Biden as they think he is better set to stop the Ukraine war. We were really surprised at the number of Europeans that brought this topic up to us.
Not sure where you were but this was not our experience 2 weeks ago in Europe. Not one single person in the 3 countries we were in preferred Trump. They all despised him.
Shocker. Their populist governments dislikes our populist government. No one is winning (or losing) this morality race. Once we stop shelling out the money, their pretense of friendship is gone. All of our governments have been an embarrassment time and again. We happen to be at a higher embarrassment phase. Who cares?
I'm another poster who travels substantially and who even lived overseas during the first Trump administration. Rarely did the topic of Trump ever come up during my travels or expat days. People are far more consumed by their own domestic politics to care much about American presidents, who come and go with regularity. All European countries have strong populist movements and the AfD just won 20% of the vote in Germany and Marie Le Pen won 33% last year in France, both levels much higher than in previous elections. A PP is correct when she says European media (especially EU media, the UK is different) is broadly more censorious and toeing the official EU line in its reporting, but talking to people on the ground is a very different story. It's like believing MSNBC news solely in reporting on American affairs. Pretty much all of Europe is deeply concerned with mass migration and the issues with integrating non Europeans into their society and the abundance of failures in doing so, which I heard first hand many times from living in Europe. So be careful in making assumptions based on what you might read in certain newspapers. I'll have to add that the majority of times I heard Trump discussed and disparaged was from fellow Americans more than any locals in any country I traveled in or lived in.
lol guess you have not talked to any Europeans lately. They are all freaking out. NATO is dead, tariffs are coming and Sweden and Finland are starting up there nuclear weapon programs. I bet you have never been to Europe.
