I'm the PP who suggested offering tips, and this is great. Thank you! Much more grounded in reality and helpful than "Parents are rotting their kids' brains!" And very similar to our experience of taking away our kid's tablet. We've seen a ton of benefits. Btw, I personally didn't notice anyone on this thread arguing screens are good for kids. It certainly isn't any significant number of posters.
Thanks! And I don't think anyone was necessarily saying screens are good for kids. But, I think most (not necessarily all) people would be pleased at how their kids respond to less screen time. My kids might be particularly bad at being able to handle excessive screen time, but there are certainly kids who should be on them less often. I don't understand the defensiveness about that just like I don't understand judging parents that are trying to balance a lot and their kids are on screens. I do want to add one general thing. My long diatribe may have made it seem like taking screens was a cakewalk. It wasn't. The kids were miserable the first few days, the adults absentmindedly picked up there phone during no-screen times (and were deservingly called hypocrites by the kids) and the kids complained about being bored until their brain chemistry adjusted to looking for other forms of simulation. The struggles have been worth it though.
