So "boy mom" is to me the same as "girl power". It's fine either way. I have boys. I am the only female in our household now. Grew up with 4 girls in the family. I would say boys are very different, so I don't care if someone uses "boy mom" eventhough I would never think to use it. I find it on the same level of annoyance as "girl power"
I’m similar. I have 2 boys who are stereotypically into very boyish things (don’t come for me! I know girls can be into those things too). I don’t use the phrase boy mom because it’s not how I talk, but when I see someone saying/writing about some boy mom experience they have and then labeling it as such with the term “boy mom”, I’m not annoyed at all — I do think it’s a little cringe (like mommy juice) but I honestly do also identify with it. And for me, it’s partially because these strong gender associations still remain a little surprising to me, even after many years of raising boys. I was a certain type of girl-stereotype growing up (quiet, lots of playing with dolls and house and tea parties, singing and dancing around, reading the typical girl books), and I’ll admit a little bit of me is wistful that I won’t share those experiences with my boys. But I love them from the bottom of my heart, so instead I lean into our ninja play, ninjago mechs, and dog man books, and I even find myself sometimes going #boymom in my head when I observe how I’m so immersed in these stereotypically boy activities which I wouldn’t have chosen on my own AND enjoying it because I’m with my kids and experiencing their joy. So there! Reclaiming boymom for myself!!!
