The issue isn't teachers-- it is MCEA. The union is behind Zimmerman, not rank-and-file teachers. Just like the union was behind school closures and the opposition to special educator recruitment incentives, not the teachers. MCEA shouldn't be anywhere near the board.[/quote]

Teachers have a conflict of interest. Their interests do not always coincide with what is best for students. That was made very obvious during the pandemic, but there are many other opportunities for that conflict to come through. The other big ones are early release days and virtual snow days. But we've also seen the union push back on attempts to restructure compensation and incentives based on supply/demand for the position (e.g., special educators, STEM).[/quote]

That’s the bigger issue here- you want to have kids but don’t want to do the work and expect others to do it for you. I'm the PP you're responding to. I was at DCUM at 7 am on a time change Sunday because the cat didn't let me sleep in, and I needed to get up anyway to do stuff. My children have both graduated from MCPS. When they were in elementary school, I did not have to worry about child care for them while they were at school, because the school provided the child care. [/quote]
