Voting for the candidate endorsed by the group that wanted to keep schools closed indefinitely is not an attractive idea.
You’re already wrong bc MCEA never wanted schools closed indefinitely. Educate yourself, because you’re just embarrassing yourself. At best, you’re proving your own ignorance. Worst? You’re straight up a liar.
You've got a short attention span. They were mad when schools partially opened in the spring of 2021, and they were mad when schools remained open in January 2022. And you want to put them on the BoE. That's nuts.
DP. I don't understand having this hatred towards teachers. These are the same people leading classrooms your kids are in every day, if you have kids.
The issue isn't teachers-- it is MCEA. The union is behind Zimmerman, not rank-and-file teachers. Just like the union was behind school closures and the opposition to special educator recruitment incentives, not the teachers. MCEA shouldn't be anywhere near the board.
You...you realize at one point in her ridiculous teaching "career" Diaz was a part of MCEA, right? The union IS made up of...wait for it.. TEACHERS. What don't you understand about this? Like, how is this hard to understand?
And teachers will often explain that they don't think the union is representing them well. Teachers aren't the problem. MCEA is the problem.
You're just kind of a stupid person. MCEA is teachers. Made up of teachers. They might not represent every single teacher individually but what entity can? So teachers shouldn't be near the BOA? Teachers are the ones in the building (unlike Diaz who didn't bother to show up for work), every single day doing the work. They know what needs to be changed/fixed/etc. They are the people you want on the board.
Teachers have a conflict of interest. Their interests do not always coincide with what is best for students. That was made very obvious during the pandemic, but there are many other opportunities for that conflict to come through. The other big ones are early release days and virtual snow days. But we've also seen the union push back on attempts to restructure compensation and incentives based on supply/demand for the position (e.g., special educators, STEM).
If you don’t think teachers have students best interest in mind, go private or homeschool. “Big” ones like virtual snow days or half days? lol you’re insane. Those are not big issues and you’d be laughed out of any school district anywhere else in the country except MoCo. Parents here are just exceptionally weird and feel entitled to free daycare services while most places have regular half days…. Some even have 4 day school weeks.
Zimmerman should campaign on that. Parents, vote Zimmerman if you want 4 day school weeks! Otherwise there's Diaz.
We know that's what MCEA wants. Look at spring 2021. And if they can't get that, they'll go for half days, which MCEA lobbies for every year.
So no proof at all...and welcome to the year 2024. I'm sorry you seem to be stuck in 2020 but the rest of us have moved on.
Again, MCEA was behind the virtual snow day and every year they try to add more early release days to the calendar. Zimmerman should not be elected to the board.
No, they don't.
Yes, they do. They try to negotiate more admin time without adding service days. Since we can't get rid of school days, that necessarily means early release days.
I like early release days.
Tell me you don't have a real job without telling me you don't have a real job.
So you’re admitting school is just childcare for you. Stop having kids you can’t afford.
Don't you have better things to do at 7:00 am on time-change Sunday than recycle two tired DCUM tropes? Child care is one of the important functions of school. That is well known. Also PP doesn't have a time machine, because there are no time machines. That is also well known.
DP- (gentle reminder: you yourself were on DCUM at 7 am on a time change Sunday…. But nice try at an insult I guess?) Stop expecting other people to raise your children. That’s the bigger issue here- you want to have kids but don’t want to do the work and expect others to do it for you. The result is children who have no idea how to behave, can’t function without screens, and don’t follow instructions bc they know there are no consequences. You should be so proud!
I'm the PP you're responding to. I was at DCUM at 7 am on a time change Sunday because the cat didn't let me sleep in, and I needed to get up anyway to do stuff. My children have both graduated from MCPS. When they were in elementary school, I did not have to worry about child care for them while they were at school, because the school provided the child care.
So…your kids are both out of the system and yet you find it necessary to post on DCUM at 7 am still? Get a life.
