He's a good person, and a good leader. Effective (as effective as one could be in this climate, at least), steady, predictable, reliable, and compassionate. The world is a better place for having people like Joe Biden in it. I'm glad he stepped away from the race, as I don't think he has it in him to finish the campaign let alone another 4 years in office. But I'm also sad for him, and for our country that he had to do so. More cynically (but also optimistically), I think he set Harris up well by staying in as long as he did. If he'd dropped out 6 months ago, or declined to run at all, Democrats would be very divided on Harris vs other candidates. By waiting until now to drop out, we are much more ready to unify behind Harris without a food fight on the left. She comes into this race from a position of strength now, with no primary battle scars. So what some see as selfishness on his part, for staying in this long - I think his departure was actually well timed.
I agree with this. Also the timing after the RNC was very strategic.
Excellent timing after the Trump shooting and RNC. Harris jumped on the plan fast and blocked out any attempts at a democratic selection process and then mass media ran with the happy stories. Trump ain’t even in the news anymore. But. Everyone still has all the kooky stuff she said when trying to run 4-5 years ago. Plus her terrible speaking style. However, luckily this has energized Dems and the millions of people who vote because she’s a woman and mixed race and socially and economically liberal.
If you look at the Biden record objectively, you will see the economy is totally on track from what Trump left, the administration continuesto try to lower inflation by reducing drug and housing prices. The GOP has NO answer for inflation. If the GOP had passed the immigration bill, the Fentenyl issue would be better addressed, but border crossings are down to 2020 levels. Meanwhile, manufacturing jobs are returning, there is huge investment in a wide variety of 21st century industry and huge investment in the country's core infrastructure. There is obviously still work to be done, but by every independent metric, the US is in a far better place today than it was 4 years ago. Harris will serve to continue the positive trajectory, while also working to continue to strengthen NATO and our allies abroad, try to bring peace to the middle east and stabilize our relationship with China. So you can bring up the kooky stuff, the DEI, the laughing, or whatever else. The bottom line, this administration, with Harris as the #2, has been thriving.
