And scale is important. Tropes that trade on the weirdness and foreignness of Asians are more insidious than jokes about driving skills. If all the kids like these jokes, ok fine. But the fact that you as the adult seem to revel in their freedom to make race-based jokes is very curious. Do you wish you could make racist jokes with impunity? [/quote]

Are you really this dense? Asians are like 2 percent of Americans. We are talking about American kids. The nation has a history of excluding Asians for being weirdo foreigners. White people making Asian jokes is not punching up. If you think so then you need a history lesson.

But the PP was using world population as evidence that Asians shouldn’t be offended by dog-eating jokes. If you think white kids at Blair are so put upon that they feel the need to “punch up” at Asians, then I guess I will have to take your word for it, as I don’t know that community. I just know that I still feel like a minority and am offended by dog-eating jokes. And I don’t wish for a world where people always call me dog-eater and I just laugh because I’m not a minority. I wish for a world where people don’t take my race into account when making fun of me. [/quote].

So here’s the deal. You don’t like these kinds of comments - so you say to the person making them “please stop. I don’t like these comments.”  What you don’t do is tell EVERYONE making these comments that they need to stop. Because some people aren’t offended by them and find them funny. You don’t get to set the standard that what works for you must work for everyone else. [/quote]

I never told those Blair kids to stop making fun of each other. I was just responding to the person saying that I'm not a victim. And I was responding to the parent of the Blair kids who said that liberal adults should wish for a post-racial world where everyone is like his kids who make fun of each other's race. I disagree.[/quote]
