Name a single DC-area club that swims outside in winter
NCap AU swims at Montgomery Square twice a week outside, year-round NCap Prep swims at Montgomery Square and one other outdoor site when Prep is closed Tollefson swims at Inverness twice a week year-round They only cancel if the air temps are below 30 or if the pool heaters can't get the water temps up to a certain level
What does this have to do with anything? No RMSC group swims outside in the winter. Those parents agreed to it, we did not.
You seem like an angry elf. The county hasn’t planned well or communicated well about these changes. That said swimming outside is a real potential solution for RMSC, as it is for other local clubs. It’s not ideal, I don’t think anyone given the choice of an indoor option near the KSAC would choose swimming outdoors, but as the county has stated, swimming outdoors is likely at least some of the time. You are welcome to find another club or site.
The original promise was the silver spring pool. It’s not that easy to switch sites and the silver spring would work best for us. We cannot afford a different club.
Except they(RMSC) never "promised" Silver Spring or anything else for that matter. Silver Spring as a wholesale/only solution was never "promised" by anyone in any official RMSC capacity... In fact, they went out of their way, to the point of being annoying, to not provide much specific information until recently. Silver Spring may be part of the practice solution moving forward but so will some of the outside options. We'll all know in advance of committing to another year agreement this August so you'll be able to decide then, with all the information, as to whether or not the new agreement works for your family. Personally, I'd be fine if Silver Spring wasn't used at all since the parking is horrible and the traffic worse but I realize that it may be part of the mix and will make my decision based on the specific actual details when they become available.
+1 Silver Spring doesn't work for us at all(North Potomac) so I too hope it's not used - Old Farm, JCC, Gaithersburg, Mont. College and even Glenmont are much better and if I hazard to guess, would be much better for the majority of the KSAC families.
And, a lot of those places don’t work for families downcounty. Not everyone lives in Rockville or Gaithersburg.
I would say that most KSAC swimmers like in Bethesda, Rockville, Potomac, or Kensington. Off the top of my head in the top 3 groups at KSAC I can name 1 kid who lives down county out of 90.
This is true from what I've observed as well(KSAC family). MLK seems to be the prevailing choice for many downcounty, much more than KSAC.
