I love that she's doing this. She's a musician and this is where her musical imagination has taken her. And, obviously a lot of people love this song too. It's done quite well so far. Not sure if you noticed?
The Texas song is terrible. It's not even in the Country Top 40 this week. Only Beyoncé's fans are streaming this song, it's not real country.
"Real country"tm, the temper tantrum being thrown by white country music fans over this is telling.
Same poster coming back to modify this to say "some" white country music fans. Because I'm a country music fan, not a Beyonce fan in general, and I love Texas Hold Em and I'm not the only one. I also love the Dixie Chicks (still, they've put out good music in the last few years and mounted an awesome tour). I think a musical genre that has decided only white people can make "real" country music is ignorant of its roots, and brazenly racist. Prove me wrong.
Um, the country music industry—like everything and everyone else—is diversifying. You are seeing more black country music artists, and you are seeing more uber-successful black country artists like Darius Rucker and Kane Brown. So please stop with the knee-jerk assumption that all country music and all country music fans are racist. It’s just not true. Ever spent time in a red state? You know what jumps out immediately: interracial couples…they are everywhere. PS - Most country music these days is pop music with more guitars and better storytelling. That’s why Beyoncé is able to slide in: country fans are used to pop hooks.
Then, what was with the Darius Rucker slam above? I grew up in the South in a Red State. This is not a slam against either of those. Just the country music fan base and radio stations who seem to have an issue with black artists that clearly has its roots in racism.
