Posters on College Confidential reporting Spring 25 acceptances. Good luck!
My child got in UMD Letters and Science but not in CS directly for fall 2024. Is there a guaranteed admission to CS after a semester?
No. It will be extremely difficult. Look at another school or major
They’ll have an academic advisor that can walk them through the requirements needed to apply, like basic coursework. I know of several in the past years that have done so successfully.
Double check this year UMD has decreased CS transfer so it might be hard to get in.
Near impossible I would say. Anyone not direct admitted to CS can later apply but it is NO LONGER a simple matter of passing 3 classes, having a 2.7, and getting guaranteed in. You could get As in the classes in question and still get rejected by CS the way its written. There is a hard number cap on major changing to CS now and applications to change to CS will be subjectively evaluated and reviewed not just rubber stamped because you passed CS1/2 and Calc 1. Basically they want students to know that they will probably never be a CS major unless they were direct admit. This applies to everyone enrolling at MD Fall 24 and later.
